Elon Musk tops the list of super billionaires

The head of the US government efficiency agency, Tesla CEO Elon Musk topped the list of ultra-rich with a fortune of over $50 billion, The Wall Street Journal (WSJ) writes, citing data from the analytical company Altrata.

As noted in the article, the list of such super-billionaires currently includes 24 people with a combined fortune of $3.3 trillion. Musk leads it with $419.4 billion, bypassing the top 3, the founder of online retailer Amazon Jeff Bezos (263.8 billion) and the owner of luxury giant LVMH Bernard Arnault (238.9 billion).

Two-thirds — 16 out of 24 — of super-billionaires have a fortune exceeding $100 billion, and unlike previous eras of capitalism, when the key rich people were industrialists, now most of them earned their capital in the technology sector, the WSJ points out.

After Tesla’s stock price rose and Musk more than recouped his investment in supporting Donald Trump, journalists suggested that the businessman, who had received a position in the Republican administration, could become a new oligarch. He himself actively comments on the political situation in other countries of the world, and also, for example, speaks out about the problem of the US national debt, warning about the danger of the depreciation of the dollar.
