DIY drywall arches, video and photo gallery of which we present on our website – this is a wonderful invention, which gives a banal door boxes a completely different look. Gypsum cardboard is a fairly inexpensive material, it is easy to work and, with a visual instruction, even a novice finisher will be able to cope with it.
Decorative arches made of drywall – a variety of species and shapes
The video shows how to make an arch of drywall
Arches can be completely different. The easiest option is classic. Arch configuration in this case is suitable for almost any interior. Its feature is the lack of a visible transition to direct areas due to the fact that the radius of the arch is made at the rate of half the width of the opening. Such designs do not add visual lightness and are suitable primarily for rooms with fairly high ceilings.
The next species is called “modern”. In such arches, the radius is greater than the opening and clearly visible the transition from the rounded part to direct areas, but thanks to this there is more light and space in the interior. Such arches are remarkably complemented by such curved elements in the interior as gypsum plasters.
If you decide to make a half -air of drywall with your own hands, you definitely will not lose. Half -flaps are popular because they most successfully emphasize the division of the interior into zones, but at the same time they do not occupy a lot of space and allows the light to freely penetrate the room.
And the last type of arches are portals. Outwardly it is a completely even, geometrically correct design. Despite the apparent simplicity, the portal fits perfectly into modern interiors, do not take the height of the doorways and are very easy to install.
Naturally, there are many more designer arches, but they are just a transformation of one of the above species.
What is needed for the manufacture of drywall arches?
The video lesson reveals the secrets of making an arch of drywall
To create an arch, you will need the following materials:
Drywall;
rack and guide profiles;
reinforced corners for arches;
Serpi for joints;
metal screws;
primer;
putty.
Keep in mind that there is a special arched drywall. Its difference from the usual lies in thickness – 6.5 mm. This material costs somewhat more expensive, but a good arch will come out of the usual ceiling LGK.
Necessary tools:
Punch;
screwdriver;
roulette;
level;
scissors for metal;
gypsum knife or electrician;
A pair of spatulas.
Installation of an arch from drywall – instructions for beginners
The system of building an arch is very similar to the construction of multi -level ceilings. First you need to dismantle the door and remove the old finish. The frame of profiles must be mounted so that its thickness is equal to the thickness of the wall minus double thickness of the drywall itself. The guides are cut and attached along the perimeter of the future arch. Then they add ceiling profiles to them at the height at which there will be a radius of the arch.
The vertical parts of the arch are cut out using a knife or jigsaw. In order for the rounding to be even, it is better to first make them on paper, then attach a template to the sheets, circle the outline with a pencil, and only then cut off. In this regard, with portals and trapezoidal arches is much easier.
If you make a rounded configuration, you will need to bend a sheet. You can do this in two ways. The first is suitable for small radii. We take a cut strip, which should correspond to the width of the opening in the width. We make transverse incisions over the entire length with the help of a knife and break them. Have a workpiece under the profile and attach it with self -tapping screws. The second method consists in pricking gypsum with a special gear roller (you can use just an awl). Distance between punctures – 1 cm. Then, with ordinary water, we moisturize the surface with a sponge. This will need to be done several times, and after an hour a strip of drywall can be carefully bend in the shape of the arch and fixed in this position until completely dry. Also, the arch can bend in place, immediately fixing it with self -tapping screws, but this requires some experience and tightly fixed frame.
After assembly, the arch begin to drill it using a special flexible arched profile. He will protect the bend from random damage, and to give the arch a clear form will be much easier. Aluminum corners are usually used for straight sections of the arch. The putty technology is no different from the putty of any other drywall surfaces.
