At the 2025 Silicon Valley Auto Show, among the sleek electric cars and futuristic technology, the flying car from Alef made a splash.
This vehicle, capable of both driving on the road and taking off vertically, attracted the attention of not only visitors but also skeptics who initially doubted its existence.
San Mateo-based Alef recently successfully tested its flying car in an urban environment. The event was so unexpected that many people thought the video footage was fake. Jim Duchovny, CEO and co-founder of Alef, told reporters that the company had to invite reporters to film the live flight to prove the reality of their development.
The Alef model has the unique ability to take off vertically and then fly horizontally. At the same time, on the ground, it functions like a regular electric car.
Despite its impressive specs, the Alef flying car currently costs $300,000. However, the company expects the price to drop as production volumes increase. Despite the high cost, Alef has already received over 3,000 pre-orders.
The company plans to begin production in late 2025 or early 2026. This timeline is dependent on obtaining the necessary permits, overcoming manufacturing hurdles, and passing safety certification. However, if Alef can pull off its plans, flying cars could become a reality sooner than many expected.
