The number of mining farms in Russia increased by 7% in 2024 and reached 136.6 thousand. The Irkutsk region was the most popular among miners due to its powerful hydroelectric power plants and cheap electricity.
At the same time, experts estimate that only a quarter of miners’ capacities are used legally, and new restrictions and new regulations may slow down the development of this business.
In January 2025, there were 136.6 thousand mining farms operating in Russia, their number increased by 7% over the year, according to estimates from MTS EnergyTool (Kommersant has become familiar with them). The total capacity of all unique mining farms in Russia by this time exceeded 11 GW.
